Using AI to Fine-Tune Your Design Services and Pricing Strategy

Hi Designers! I'm Jenna Gaidusek, and today, I'd like to discuss how we can leverage AI, particularly large language models (LLMs), to enhance our design services and refine our pricing strategies.

As interior designers, it's imperative to stay competitive and ensure our services align with the evolving needs of our clients. With the rapid advancements in AI tools and technology, it's essential to regularly reassess our offerings and pricing structures.

To illustrate this, I posed a question to multiple AI models: ChatGPT Plus, Google Gemini, Perplexity, and Microsoft Copilot. My objective was to determine how each model would suggest creating and pricing three new virtual interior design services.

Here's the query I presented: "I want to create three new virtual interior design services. I currently offer design boards for concepts with furniture linked to purchase, optional renderings and VR walkthrough tours, and virtual consultations. I charge $150 an hour. Create three different tiers of services, list out deliverables, and price them for me."

Here are the responses from each AI model:

ChatGPT Plus suggested the following tiers:

  1. Basic Design Package - $500: Includes a 1-hour virtual consultation, design board, curated color scheme, and two revisions.

  2. Standard Design Package - $1,200: Includes a 90-minute consultation, design board, color palette, material selection, floor plan, 3D renderings, and three revisions.

  3. Premium Design Package - $2,500: Includes a 2-hour consultation, design board, color palette, material selection, floor plan, 3D renderings, VR walkthrough, four revisions, and virtual assistance.

Google Gemini provided a more budget-conscious breakdown:

  1. Design Essentials - $350: For budget-conscious clients, includes a design board with shopping links and one round of revisions.

  2. Design Enhancement - $650: For clients seeking comprehensive solutions, includes a design board, two rounds of revisions, detailed color palette, material board, basic floor plan, and optional 1-hour consultation.

  3. Design Immersion - $1,200: For clients desiring an immersive experience, includes a design board, unlimited revisions, detailed color palette, floor plan, high-quality renderings, VR walkthrough, and two consultations.

Microsoft Copilot proposed lower prices:

  1. Basic Design Package - $300: Includes a 1-hour consultation, design board, and one revision.

  2. Standard Design Package - $750: Includes a 1-hour consultation, design board, 3D renderings, two revisions, and a shopping list.

  3. Premium Design Package - $1,500: Includes a 1-hour consultation, design board, 3D renderings, VR walkthrough, three revisions, and a follow-up consultation.

Perplexity offered a comprehensive approach:

  1. Basic Design Package - $500: Includes a 1-hour meeting, design concept, one round of revisions, and an implementation guide.

  2. Standard Design Package - $1,200: Includes a design concept, renderings, design board, virtual support, implementation guide, and two rounds of revisions.

  3. Premium Design Package - $2,500: Includes a 1-hour consultation, design concept, 3D renderings, VR walkthrough, unlimited revisions, implementation guide, virtual support, and exclusive discounts to partnered vendors.

Each AI model provided unique insights and pricing strategies, underscoring the importance of experimenting with different AI tools to find what best suits your business. The key is to provide comprehensive information about your services to receive the most accurate and helpful responses.

I hope this exploration into AI-powered pricing strategies inspires you to refine your own services. Stay creative, stay competitive, and continue leveraging technology to elevate your design business!
